Watson gets green light to roll with Raiders

Former BBL Championship winning point guard, Neil Watson, will be making the journey down south from Glasgow to join Plymouth Raiders for the 2017-18 season.

The 26-year-old, from Kansas, graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi before turning pro and joining Leicester in 2014, where he led Riders to League and Cup titles in the 2015-16 season.

A proven winner and known for his high tempo style, Watson has averaged 14.5 points per game over his professional career, along with an impressive 5.8 assists per outing.

Last season, after making the move north to Glasgow Rocks, he averaged 16.2 points and 4.3 assists per game - elevating the Scottish team to 3rd in the BBL Championship.

Making a signing of Watson’s calibre is a real statement of intent for the Raiders under new owners Mackenzie and Mollard, as the club looks to improve on recent seasons and battling to try and make the Play-Offs.

Gavin Love, Head Coach for the Raiders said: “We are expecting a great deal from Neil this season, as he will need to raise the level of those around him for our season to be a success.

“With his experience, we are confident he is the right person to lead our team from the point guard position.

"He has all the tools a player needs to excel in the league, and I believe he still can expand areas of his game. I’m confident we will see that improvement this season.”

Speaking of his move to Plymouth, Watson said: “I'm very excited to be joinimg the Raiders family and I’m looking forward to competing for trophies this season while doing a lot of winning.”

Further announcements from Coach Love are expected throughout August, as he builds a team ready to compete for trophies in the coming BBL season.
