Sharks win BBL Battle of the Roses

BBL Championship

Manchester Giants 81-98 DBL Sharks Sheffield (24-35, 43-56, 66-75)

DBL Sharks Sheffield crossed the Pennines to successfully complete a Lancashire raid as they eased past Giants to improve their BBL Championship record to 6-3.

Without the services of star forward David Kadiri, Giants were always on the back foot and especially on the glass, meaning their barren run continues.

Leading scorers – Bankevics 22, Jones 19, Bell 15 (Giants) Williams 28, Alexander 23, McKnight 13, Gachette 13 (Sharks)

Turning point – Manchester came out for the second-half with the bit between their collective teeth as they pushed Sharks hard and cut the gap to just 8 points. But, the hosts were undone by a 14-4 burst from Sharks midway through the third quarter.

Key stat – Sheffield were unstoppable on the boards and out-rebounded their opponents 54-40.

Game hero(es) – Dirk Williams lit it up with 28 points, while Chris Alexander came up with an all-action 23 points, 7 assists and 3 boards.
